A Sacramento broadcasting institution, Cal Bollwinkel retired from KTXL
FOX40 in 1999 after 21 years at the station and a total of 51 years in
the broadcasting field. Known to many as "the face of FOX40" for his
years of on-air editorials and hosting public affairs programming, Cal
imparted the best values of broadcasting, including citizenship,
community service, and integrity, to everyone he touched. In
recognition of the positive impact he had on the lives and careers of
others, KTXL FOX40 established the Cal Bollwinkel Broadcasting
Scholarship. Now retired, Cal currently lives in Sacramento and remains
active in the community.
This
scholarship is designed to recognize and encourage an outstanding
student interested in pursuing a career in broadcasting or journalism.
The annual award winner will receive $2000 to support the applicant's
continued education. Additionally, Carl's Jr. will award a "Burgers For
A Year" card valued at $207.00.
Applications
will be reviewed based on the individual's interest in pursuing a
career in the fields of broadcasting or journalism, a demonstrated
commitment to either industry, along with how the candidate represents
the value of community service. All applications will be reviewed by a
FOX40 committee, from those applications three finalists will be
selected to participate in an interview process. The interview panel
will then determine the winner of the scholarship. We strongly
encourage applicants to submit writing samples or a reel for further
consideration.
The program is open to high school seniors who have been accepted and admitted into a college or university and plan to attend in the Fall 2008 as well as undergraduate college or broadcasting/journalism trade school students who are currently enrolled in a college or university at the time of entry. Participants must be at least 13 years of age or older, a legal U.S. citizen, and reside in the KTXL broadcasting viewing area in the state of California.
