VALLEJO -
Vallejo's Mayor Osby Davis is coming under fire for comments he recently made about gays and lesbians.
He told the New York Times that they are sinners.
Our Kenny Lopez spoke with people who are very upset with the mayor's remarks.
Mayor Davis said, "They're committing sin and that sin will keep them out of heaven. But you don't hate the person, you hate the sin that they commit."
Father Lou Bordisso is an openly gay priest and is upset over Mayor Davis' words. "If he says that gays and lesbians are not going to heaven then we are going to raise hell."
Father Bordisso says that the comments aren't just homophobic. He believes Mayor Davis shouldn't be mixing religion and politics.
"The mayor's comments were of a theological nature and he was acting in his capacity as mayor and that's completly unacceptable. There needs to be a separation of church and state."
Many folks living in Vallejo say the Mayor's comments are sending the wrong message.
On Tuesday night gay activists will be holding a protest/rally to debate the issue with Mayor Davis.
