OLD SACRAMENTO - A large sea lion is attracting a lot of attention in Old Sacramento. That's because the animal appears to be injured. A team is trying to rescue it. The sea lion swam onto a dock behind Joe's Crab Shack. Initial Reports are that the sea lion was possibly shot in the eye.

Witnesses say they're glad the mammal's alive but are still wondering why someone would shoot a sea lion. One onlooker, Elle Ouette says, "I think it's awful. People should have more respect for animals."

Sacramento Police went out on a boat to search for it, but they couldn't find it.

Hours later, The sea lion re-surfaced.

Rescuers from the Marine Mammal Center are now on-site trying to find a way to catch the sea lion and help it.

Suzanne Maust and her granddaughter saw the whole thing and say they hope the sea lion's going to be ok. "It's sad. She's an animal lover and it was very difficult for her. We had teary eyes."

If the sea lion was shot. Police say if they the person who did it they could face animal cruelty charges.
