ELK GROVE -
Like any pre-teen girl, Jessica Long just wants to have fun. She likes to ride her bike and build huge Lego creations.
The only problem is she doesn't any have any friends in her neighborhood to hang out with. Her mom turned to the internet to find her a "B.F.F."
"I posted a request to see if there were any other 12 to 13 year old girls who would like to get to know Jessica."
Amy Long says posting an ad on the blog Elk Grove Online is risky but worth a shot if it means friends for her daughter. Long says she knows there are a lot of weirdos on the internet. That's why she's going along with Jessica to meet the new friend and her parents.
It hasn't been easy for Jessica to make friends. About a year ago, she was hurt in a car crash and says some classmates are still teasing her.
"They started laughing and they thought it was hilarious that I got hurt."
Jessica really wants to find a friend who she can connect with and have a good time with.
So far one parent has responded to the ad. They plan to meet up soon. No matter how the friends are found, family therapists say it's best parents know who their kids are hanging out with.
