Haunted House--Not Allowed
CITRUS HEIGHTS - A haunting dilemma faces a Citrus Heights woman whose run a haunted house for the past 14 years. The County is threatening to shut down her house of horrors on Community Drive. Marcie Duarte loves Hallowee and the thrill of scaring others. The thought of not being allowed to have her haunted house on her property, is sending chills down her spine. This mad scientist may be laughing, but for Marice Duarted losing her haunted hause is no laughing matter. Sacramento Metro Fire District inspectors sent her a letter telling her she can't be open to the public without the necessary permits. Not being able to get the permits fast enough is freaking her out. "They're telling me that I can't scare any little kids this year." Marcie doesn't charge for her fright fest. All she asks for is a can of food. She donates the food to Lutheran Food bank. Last year, she filled two truck loads. Captain Christian Pebbles says, Haunted Houses must have emergency lighting, sprinkler systems, and follow fire codes...somthing Marcie's haunted house is not doing. He says, "I understand halloween's fun and games, I'm all for that, but not at the risk of injury or death to our citizens." Marcie says, she isn't going to just let this issue rest in peace. Fire Inspectors say if they find out she is still running her Haunted House they will cite her.
