It’s official, a group of friends have set the Guinness World Record for “most comments on a Facebook item” at 1,001,552 comments.
The effort started with a post on a Frontierville group’s Facebook page on October 30th, and from there about 107 people left their mark, over and over again. Tracey Hodgson and Nattie Murphy said they wanted to show what a group could do when they worked together for something.
Cathy Matthews had spent hours harvesting digital crops and chopping down electronic trees in Frontierville. So she quickly joined the effort of her friends to leave her mark on the world.
“I'm no spring chicken anymore and I really haven’t done anything phenomenal," Matthews told FOX40.
Hodgson says she read three books from start to finish, and talked about “many things” in her posts. Matthews added thousands of shorter posts, mostly two-letter words over and over again.
“Once you get the rhythm, you can go pretty fast,” said Matthews.
In just a few months, the group had more than a million comments on their single post, nearly doubling the previous record.
Hodgson reached out to FOX40 and showed the official word from the Guinness World Records organization that the group’s efforts were accepted and are the new record.
So, now what? What will those 107 people do now that they have accomplished such a daunting feat?
“We'll probably go back to playing our games,” said Matthews.
