VACAVILLE -
Two Vacaville teenagers were arrested Wednesday evening after allegedly shooting off fireworks that set five acres of Solano County hillside ablaze.
Jared Shibuya and Kurt Erickson, both 18, were arrested and booked into Solano County Jail after witnesses told authorities they were spotted near the starting location of the fire. Residents accused the three of setting off fireworks near a hill off Wrentham Drive around 11:30pm. The blaze spread across five acres of vacant hillside before it was extinguished by firefighters.
Authorities tracked and confronted Shibuya, Erickson and an unidentified 17-year-old minor to a church parking lot on Browns Valley Parkway.
Shibuya and Erickson were booked into Solano County Jail on charges of unlawfully causing a fire to property. The minor was cited and released. Authorities continue to investigate the possibility that more individuals may be involved in the incident.
Vacaville Police say fireworks are illegal to possess and use within the city.
