FAIRFIELD -
40-airmen and women from Travis Air Force Base Wednesday are enjoying a home cooked meal for the first time in 2-months.
The team known as The Warriors of the 615th Contingency Response Wing expanded and operated airfields in Afghanistan. This after 2-months in the unstable environment of Western Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
But seeing there family is a joy they said they wish for all service members, especially those who never came back from war.
Master Sargent Kenneth Horner says "seeing your comrades come back from patrols that didn't make it...that's the sobering thing, it was rough".
Still this home-coming had joy and even a surprise for one airman...when he stepped on american soil he saw his wife a little closer to motherhood.
First Lt. Daniel Land said "before I left she wasn't showing at all so now it's incredible".
Now Land and his fellow Warriors wake up Thursday morning in their own beds...and enjoying that comfort they dreamed about for over 2-months.
