98 Rock radio hosts Rob Williams and Arnie States let loose on the topic of transgenders. The 10-year hosts are known for their shock-radio format, but did what they say this time go too far?
During a show last week, the hosts commented on transgenders, characterizing them as "freaks," and having a mental disorder. And they blame some parents for enabling the behavior of transgender kids.
By phone, 98 Rock station manager Jim Fox said, "Did they do anything wrong? If you're a regular listener, the answer is no."
He said anyone who knows the Rob, Arnie and Dawn show, knows the hosts are "equal opportunity offenders."
"There are limits to what people can say. But this is a forum for topical discussion," he added.
Lester Neblett of the Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center said there is no excuse for radio personalities imposing their personal feelings which hurt so many people.
"They're hiding behind a mask at the radio station, behind a certain belief that they have the right to hurt people's feelings and not take responsibility for that," Neblett said.
