Sacramento—
The Stagger Inn is no longer standing. The building used to be a tavern, but it closed close to 10 years ago. So Thursday, the City of Rancho Cordova tore it down. The City will also purchase and demolish four nearby housing structures to make way for 18 multi-family and 48 senior rental units. There will also be 2 community centers.
The total space it 1.89 acres of land.
City Councilman David Sander admits the project is a little denser than usual. Times have changed, though. Home buyers used to flock to the suburbs for more land and more home. Now that the economy has turned, people are getting real.
Jean Lawrence works for the company building the Rancho Cordova community and says high density communities are doing really well because when people face foreclosure, often their only option is to turn to a rental community.
