Two Drunk Drivers Collide On SoCal Freeway
MONTEBELLO - A pregnant woman is suspected of driving drunk when her vehicle collided with another car also driven by a drunk driver, according to Montebello fire officials.

The crash occurred around 2 a.m. Wednesday at Whittier Boulevard and Concourse Avenue.

The pregnant woman was taken to County USC Medical Center with severe injuries, according to the Montebello Fire Department. A man driving the other car was also intoxicated, according to officials. He suffered major trauma to his arms and was facing possible amputation, fire officials said.

At least one person was ejected during the crash. In all, four people were injured, including one man who tried to flee from one of the cars. That man was detained and sent to the hospital for treatment.

Lester Enrique Chupina, 33, of Whittier was booked on suspicion of felony drunken driving and was being held on $100,000 bail, Montebello police Sgt. Kelly Gordon said.

A section of Whittier Boulevard was closed for more than six hours after the crash. Several palm trees, along with other debris, were scattered along the street as a result of the crash.
