WILTON -
Hundreds of people across the country were stark naked to set a world record today. A local nudist colony ditched their swimsuits to duke it out for the title of the world's largest skinny dip. At the Laguna Del Sol nudist colony in Wilton, people are always hanging loose in their birthday suits, but on Saturday they did something they've never done before. While trying to set a new Guinness Book record for the largest skinny dip, more than 500 nudists packed into the resort pool. One nudist told FOX 40, "There were a lot of people, thank God I know a lot of those people, it was good, everyone was very nice."
Guinness recently classified the skinny dip as an official challenge, which means it had to be overseen by an approved witness and well organized. The colony owner, Suzanne Schell, said the had "Wrist bands so we'd know everyone who registered was actually there counted them going into the pool,so if we said we had 505 people registered, that's how many people actually got into the water."
Nudists say there is nothing wrong with being naked, except if you are on camera for the public to see, but the colony says the pictures for the Guinness Book will likely be less naked.
Nudists say trying to set the record was also about standing up for a way of life they believe in. Nudist Debbi Hamill says, "The freedom it gives you, being in water, being one with nature, all of those things are wonderful and if they just experienced it they would never want to put their clothes back on."
The Laguna Del Sol nudist colony is one of the largest resorts in the country, and they're hoping they rank in at least the top five for the Guinness record.
