SACRAMENTO—
How would you like to see your picture, name and address posted on Craigslist and find that someone labeled you a pervert.A Sacramento man is dealing with that shock and is speaking only to FOX40 about it.
Dean Koggsguard says the ad is a big lie, totally false and now he may be looking for an attorney since his character is on the line.
The ad has now been pulled off Craigslist, but Dean is forced to clear his name with his neighbors who some tell FOX40 Dean is a good guy.
Dean says he has an idea who posted the ad and said it stems from an on-going feud, "This guy for some reason has got it in for me. The first night I moved in here I had all my tires popped, and I'm pretty sure that he did it".
Now attorneys say if this happens to you online, it can be an up-hill battle to clear your name. They say since Craiglist is much like a public square, people can say what they want.
According to California Civil Law - Section-44 defamation is an invasion of the interest in reputation. So if this happens to you. You must prove the ad is truly false. That it is defamatory. And has a natural tendency to injure or that causes special damage. Those rules of law Dean will soon be using as he tries to clear his name.
