He's usually the one arresting someone for domestic violence, but early Friday morning, Officer Brian Weinrich was arrested himself for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend several times, and brandishing a handgun.

Immediately after his arrest, he was disarmed and placed on administrative leave.

Officer Wienrich has been a Sacramento police office for two years, assigned to patrol.

"He does not have peace officer status right now," said Sgt. Norm Leong, spokesman for the Sacramento Police Department.

Weinrich's girlfriend called police Thursday night, to report the alleged domestic violence that began inside her Galt home.

He allegedly stopped her when she tried getting out of the car, while driving to his Roseville home.

One neighbor said the couple appeared just fine.

"They seemed okay. I met the girlfriend. They seemed to be doing real well. Too bad for what happened."

"Law enforcement aren't immune to the trials and tribulations that everyone else is," Leong said.

Four years ago, Weinrich was interviewed in a Sac City news letter for following in the footsteps of his dad, who is also a cop.

When asked about his work ethic he said, "It's important to me that I have a good reputation and am a role model in my work environment."
