Riverbank councilman Jesse James White spent Friday evening in the Stanislaus County Jail.

Stanislaus Sheriff's deputies arrested White Friday afternoon on charges of possession of marijuana and cocaine and a probation violation. Deputies say the quantities of the drugs were consistent with what would be considered personal use.

Investigators found the drugs after a routine probation search.

White is on probation for a previous misdemeanor conviction for "wet and reckless driving," which is a form of reduced DUI. The conviction did not require him to serve jail time and he kept his license.

His defense lawyer at the time, Mary Lynn Belsher tells FOX40 she isn't familiar with all the details of the current case, but that, "He's a good guy."

She added, "The voters voted him to city council so he's got something going for him. He's a young guy, we want young guys in government."
