RIVERBANK—
The Fourth of July is still weeks away, but Monday's Riverbank City Council meeting was filled with fireworks.Council members are demanding that one of their own resign after being charged with drug possession.
Riverbank Mayor Virginia Madueno said at the beginning of the council meeting, " The only resolution that the citizens see at this time is that you step down from office."
Still, Riverbank Councilman Jesse James White is fighting to keep his elected position. He said, "I know if i resign you'll replace me with another tax and spend puppet."
The call to resign follows White's May 14th arrest when cops uncovered cocaine and marijuana inside his home. "I'm going to remain on the council until the legal issues play out," White said tonight.
Riverbank's mayor feels Jesse James White's bad boy image is living up to his name, and people don't want it.
The mayor wants to censure White, which will lessen his power, much like Washington, DC did when Council Member Marion Barry was charged in a stalking case.
Mayor Madueno said, "If legally we can't remove him, I believe that there are some ways for us to be able to hinder his abilities further on this council."
