SACRAMENTO COUNTY—
A Sacramento County woman gained a remarkable pen pal by throwing a message in a bottle into the ocean. She set the bottle afloat nine years ago during a cruise between Boston Harbor and Quebec, Canada. Three months later, it washed up onto the shore of a small fishing village on the southwestern tip of Nova Scotia. The recipient wrote back.
It turns out, the two pen pals have something very much in common.
"When I got the letter I was in such shock because her name is also Delores, spelled just like mine," said the Sacramento County Delores. To protect her privacy, she would like us to only use her first name.
The two women have exchanged dozens of letters and pictures over the past nine years. They recently spoke on the phone for the first time. But even if they had never spoken, their letters prove that you can keep up with a friend without the help of modern technology.
"I like to be able to take the letters and put them away in a box," Delores told FOX40. "Now if we had corresponded by computer, I wouldn't have all of this wonderful memorabilia."
