Five restaurants operated under the Hooters franchise face a class action lawsuit filed by one current and several former employers alleging illegal violations of state wage and welfare laws.

The lawsuit, filed against five Hooters restaurants including the two Sacramento locations and a restaurant in Rancho Cordova, claims servers with the restaurant were forced to pay for their own uniforms and forced to surrender portions of tips earned to managers.

The lawsuit also claims management failed to provide adequate rest and meal breaks to employees as required under state law. The restaurant is additionally accused of failing to compensate employees the minimum wage required by state law.

"The violations...show a total disregard by [Hooters of America] and the Central Vally franchises of the rights of its employees," a press release sent to media outlets Tuesday read, adding that some of the offenses were recently exposed in a recent episode of the CBS show "Undercover Boss."

A press conference by the plaintiffs and their attorneys is expected for tomorrow at 11:00am.
