It's a walk most often done by women selling sex. But on Saturday night, the Guardian Angels patrolled Watt Avenue in North Highlands hoping to deter prostitutes from doing their dirty work.

"We're sending a message that we're not going to tolerate it. It's not going to happen. It's not going to be here. If you want to do that, go somewhere else. We're going to chase you there too. We're going to follow you until you eventually disappear," said Patrick Kent, of the Guardian Angels.

The group is focusing on the area known as "The Stroll" where prostitution has run rampant.

"With the budget cuts from the sheriff's department, obviously they can't do it alone. I think volunteers, such as our organization, and those that care about their community should get out here and do something about it," said Kent.

Area businesses are used to prostitutes lingering around their property. They've done as much as they can to stop it.

"Once security sees them go in with a john he automatically throws them out real fast," said Greg Held who works at Days Inn.

They hope the added presence of the Guardian Angels will do more to eventually stop the problem. But one woman isn't waiting. She's sick and tired of what goes on outside her apartment and says she's moving out.

"There's used condoms and stuff in the parking lot, across the street, even into the school yard which is directly across the street from the apartment complex."
