RANCHO CORDOVA -
Dozens of students chanted, "Save our school," as hundreds more gathered Monday night, pleading to save their school
Six schools north of Folsom Boulevard in Rancho Cordova, could shut down for good, although the focus was on three - Cordova Lane, Riverview and Williamson elementaries.
Amy Chaverri is a Williamson mom, who urged officials to rethink the closures.
"This is like throwing family members of neighbors under the bus to save ourselves," she said, as the crowd cheered in agreement.
She has also supported the district through various bonds, telling fellow parents they can fight this.
"Any home owner here in Rancho Cordova that voted for that bond can file a class action suit against Folsom Unified School District," she said.
She also urged... "file an injunction to stop this, as well as file a restraining order."
Superintendent Patrick Godwin says he and other supes across the state, have the toughest job in the world right now.
"We are in the midst of a huge state budget crisis that has had a monumental impact on our district," Godwin said to parents.
His job is finding cuts to help the district's $10 million deficit. Closing two schools will save $600,000.
"None of us wants to take things away from students and communities," Godwin said. "We simply don't have the resources to offer everything that we've offered in the past."
District officials showed different combinations of schools closing, breaking it down by numbers.
"What's not in that number is the amount of heart in this community," Chaverri said.
