A fireworks prank nearly torched a kindergarten classroom. Just before two in the afternoon Saturday the smoke detector went off in the room at John Bidwell Elementary.
When firefighters arrived it was filled with smoke. They found a few stains leaving minor damage from the fireworks, but fire officials say it could have been a lot worse. Surveillance video captured four kids outside the school. Two of them were throwing fireworks into the window.
Sgt. Vince Matranga, Sacramento School Police, said, "There's stacks of papers, books and other flamable material stacked around the classroom. We are very fortunate that two lit fireworks did not land on the papers or books."
Fire officials said that the vandal's parents could be responsible for any damage that is done. They said that a judge can also mandate that the children get counseling to learn the dangers of playing with fire.
