A California Corrections Officer is now facing charges for allegedly smuggling weapons and drugs into the new Folsom prison. The officer was arrested Monday, and just posted bail today.
39-year old Domingo Garcia had been working in Folsom Prison for nearly a decade- guarding some of the State's most serious, long-time convicts.
"It could be in the housing units, or it could be on the general main yard of the facility. He worked in both," said Rhonda Carter, a spokeswoman for the prison.
Carter confirmed there was at least one loaded gun found in Garcia's car on prison property. The Sacramento Sheriff's Department says they arrested Garcia for conspiracy to bring drugs in to the Prison as well.
What kind of assurances are there that this isn't part of a much larger systematic problem?
"Whenever something like this happens we take it seriously. We will investigate it. We will look into it," said Carter.
Garcia was arrested after his shift at the Prison. Carter said Garcia has been removed from working at the prison. In a twist, he spent two days in lock-up himself at the Sacramento jail, after his arrest.
