EL DORADO HILLS -
Wearing a red jumpsuit and shackles, accused killer Steven Colver was booked into the El Dorado County Jail. The 19 year old stared at the ground saying nothing as deputies led him inside.
On Friday, the district attorney filed murder charges against Colver and his 14 year old girlfriend Tylar Witt, who's booked into juvenile hall. Both are accused of fatally stabbing Witt's mother Joanne in her El Dorado Hills home.
Prosecutors also included a special circumstance charge against Colver for using a deadly weapon, a knife, in the killing. The complaint alleges Colver killed Joanne Witt sometime on or between June 11 and June 12 with "malice aforethought."
Colver declined our request for an interview.
The teens were arrested in the Bay Area on Wednesday, two days after Joanne Witt was found dead. Friends tell FOX40 Witt allowed Colver to live with her and her daughter, because she was led to believe he was gay. But when she found out about their relationship she threatened to press statutory rape charges. A close friend of the suspects told FOX40 earlier this week that he believes that may be what pushed the love struck teens over the edge.
"I'm guessing he found out about that and went crazy," Jordan Ubry said Wednesday.
