Chains Required
KYBURZ - The non-stop Sierra snow on Highway-50 is created some slick road conditions and forcing some drivers to turn around Monday night.

Dozens of motorist in Kyburz had to turn around and go to lower evaluation because they were not equipped for the snow.

Even though FOX40 forecasted the snow on TV and FOX40.COM - many drivers especially from Southern California were still caught off guard.

Bill Morrocco and his family told us "this is intense...this is way more than I thought".

Cal-Trans didn't cut anyone a break along on Highway-50. If your vehicle wasn't a 4-wheel drive, you had to snap on those chains.

Many drivers had to pull over on the side of the road and told if they want to drive further they must chain up.

For some drivers it took him about 45-minutes to get chains on their car and make it road safe....that's not fun when temperatures are dropping every minute.

Even with the road hazards some drivers couldn't resist a little play on the highway. The Sakiri family from Los Angeles didn't know about the snow - but loved the surprise. Senaat sakiri says "the kids wanted to go skiing so we wanted to do this".

Still Cal-Trans says this snow is no laughing matter, if you don't follow the rules.

They say slow down...put on your chains...and watch out for other drivers...or you could find yourself in a ditch.

Now if you have a 4-wheel drive in most cases you wont need chains during the snow. But if you do need chains expect to pay between $30 and 50-bucks to chain up your vehicle.
