SACRAMENTO -
At least one of several atheist billboards erected in the Sacramento area has been vandalized.
A billboard that reads "Are you good without God?" erected by the Sacramento Coalition of Reason, was vandalized over the past few days. Someone added the words "...and lost?" with spray paint.
Sacramento COR spokesperson Tom Ikelman said the vandalism comes as no shock to the athiest community.
"This is the kind of reaction that we had hoped wouldn't happen," Ikelman told FOX40's Darsha Philips Tuesday morning. "But, we're not surprised that it did."
Ikelman said the billboard's owner, Clear Channel Outdoor, has promised the atheist organization they will repair the billboard. It's unknown if the repair will come at a cost to Sacramento COR.
At least ten atheism awareness billboards can be seen in the Sacramento area, with similar billboards erected last week in more than a dozen cities across the nation. Each billboard costs approximately $6,000 to display.
