Vandals Strike Auburn Clock Tower
AUBURN - It's been a downtown Auburn landmark for 20 years. But recently, vandals are starting to tick off downtown business owners. Especially Ben Asgharzadeh who has volunteered his time over the past two decades maintaining the clock tower. He says the clock is being vandalized on a daily basis.

"Almost every night they change the position of the clock. They go one hour ahead or one hour back."

That damages the motor and bends the clock's hands. Asgharzadeh owns Golden Swan Jewelers. He makes repairs to the clock just about everyday. He's spent thousands of dollars of his own money on replacement parts. He even invested in a $5,000 machine to help with the repairs. He's now considering purchasing surveillance cameras to catch the pranksters. But prank or not, he's not laughing. It's not just costing him money, but time.

Asked why he thinks the clock is being vandalized, Asgharzadeh said, "I wish I knew the answer. That's why I'm begging him to come here and talk to us. If you have differences, let's try and solve the problem."
