Travis AFB Airmen Deployed To Afghanistan
Sacramento -

About 40 Airmen deployed from Travis Air Force Base Friday.

FOX 40 was allowed to spend the day with the men and women of the 615th Contingency Response Wing and the 60th Air Mobility Wing as they prepared to leave for Afghanistan.  Their day started at the Global Deployment Center where their bags were loaded onto pallets.  Next, they moved to the Issue Facility.  That's where they get their weapons.  Once they were all set with their guns and ammunition, they boarded the C5 and left for their mission.  Lt. Col. Scott Zippwald says, "We're going to be taking aircraft and off loading them onto other aircraft."  Airman Vincent Washington has been waiting for this day.  "This is what I joined for.  This is what I signed the papers for so I'm more than anxious, I'm really excited to go," he explains.

The Airmen deployed are part of a larger group going to Afghanistan. Some left earlier this week and another group is scheduled to leave over the weekend.
