SANTA CLARA—
A United States Airman accused of fatally shooting a 19-year-old woman has been shot and killed in Santa Clara.The incident unfolded late last night in Marysville when police say they got a 911 call regarding shots fire at an apartment complex on Cheim Boulevard. When they arrived they found the female with a gunshot wound to the chest. The unidentified victim was rushed to Rideout Memorial Hospital where she died a short time later.
Officers also discovered a second victim that had been shot. The 21-year-old man was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He was later released.
Investigators soon identified the suspect as 21-year-old Ian York. He had recently moved to Marysville from Indiana. Witnesses say York and the female victim were dating and they had gotten into an argument earlier that evening. They say York eventually took off in his car.
A tip led officers to Santa Clara. Officers found York early this morning. According to reports York shot at officer who shot back. The suspect ran from the scene. He was located again. They say they were shot at again and as a result shot and killed York.
